Michael Polakowski was born in Dearborn, Michigan in 1994 and attended The College for Creative Studies where he received his BFA. Following his formal education, Polakowski established his studio practice in Detroit, MI as a part of the Gold Top Artist Collective. From the foundation of his studio, Polakowski set out documenting the emotional and physical landscape of the Midwestern United states through the medium of acrylic painting. The artist diligently observed and documented his environment, processing what he witnessed with a candid and conscious eye to produce dreamlike interpretations of his surroundings. The work from this time period has garnered recognition from publications like New American Painting, Juxtapoz, and Dovetail Mag. Polakowski has participated in artist residencies like the Red Bull House of Art and has exhibited with galleries like Oever Gallery (Oostend), Thinkspace Projects (Los Angeles), Galerie Zberro (Paris) and is a 2024 Fellow at the Vermont Studio Center.
